Core Programs
The Center of Innovation coordinates the following programs in collaboration with the State of New Mexico:
Children’s Law Institute (CLI) - A statewide, multi-disciplinary conference addressing issues of importance in child welfare and juvenile justice. Over more than twenty-five years, it has grown from a small gathering of lawyers to an event attracting over 1,000 educators, child welfare workers, judges, lawyers, juvenile justice personnel, advocates, resource families, young people, lawmakers, and others. Visit the CLI page for more info on the annual conference. Visit NM Children's Law Institute.
Family Peer Support - Assists parents and primary caregivers who need support and guidance in how to access and engage with these systems. Families benefit from the support of a trained and certified Family Peer Support Worker (CFPSW) who has lived experience parenting a child, youth, or young adult with emotional, behavioral, and mental health challenges. The Center of Innovation oversees all training and certification tracking for the Family Peer Support Program.
High-Fidelity Wraparound - Provides intensive care coordination for children, youth and their families with complex behavioral health needs. The Center of Innovation oversees all training and certification tracking, provider implementation, and technical assistance for the State of New Mexico’s Wraparound Program.
New Mexico Evidence-Based Practices - A collaboration between the COI and the State to increase high-quality behavioral health workforce throughout the state and improve access to mental health services. The EBP Initiative provides training implementation and support of evidence-based practices to behavioral health providers. The identified EBPs are Dialectal Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Functional Family Therapy (FFT), Multisystemic Therapy (MST), and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT).
New Mexico Mobile Response & Stabilization Services - The Center of Innovation has partnered with state agencies and community providers in the development of Children’s Mobile Response and Stabilization Services (MRSS) which will be a key component of the System of Care in New Mexico, providing a vital resource to young people and their families throughout the state. It is critical that MRSS responders receive quality and robust training to prepare them for their role in responding to families who have reached out for help when experiencing a safety and stability event.
Quality Service Review (QSR) - A case-based review of practice, results, and working conditions used to both evaluate and stimulate practice development through the Action Learning process. QSR looks at individual consumers who are currently receiving agency services and identifies both strengths and areas for improvement in the agency’s practice. The Center of Innovation trains and certifies qualified individuals to conduct reviews and coordinates the ongoing reviews of New Mexico Behavioral Health Providers and State of New Mexico system partners.
Youth Peer Support - A community-based program that employs young people, who have successfully navigated life's challenges, to promote belonging, hope, and shared power within the community as a Youth Peer Support Worker (YPSW). The Center of Innovation oversees all training and certification tracking for the Youth Peer Support Program.
Youth MOVE New Mexico - A national movement that supports young people to join local and statewide chapters centering youth-driven organizing and advocacy around issues related to mental health and wellness. Youth MOVE embodies and actualizes the System of Care value of Youth Voice and Choice by elevating young voices to reach decision-makers.
Youth Support Services (YSS) - Life Skills Coaching for youth supplements or enhances formal and natural supports and promotes resilience. The program is youth-driven, designed to empower, and starts with basic skills, leading eventually to mastery. The Center of Innovation developed a customized curriculum to train YSS Life Skills Coaches and provides the training to identified YSS agencies.
Nurtured Heart Approach - The Nurtured Heart Approach (NHA) is a relationship-based model that consists of 3 Stands™: Absolute No, Absolute Yes, and Absolute Clarity. The approach aims to build Inner Wealth ™ and resiliency and can be used in a variety of settings including 1 on 1 work with children, in parenting groups, and at an organizational level as a supervision approach. The Center of Innovation provides NHA training to the community on a regular basis and also supports the State of New Mexico’s implementation of the NHA throughout the System of Care.
